The hospital in Verduno is a story of a territorial symbol that went from being just a vision to a reality
Officially named after Michele and Pietro Ferrero, the Verduno Hospital is a modern and vital healthcare facility for the Alba and Bra areas of Piedmont. Its history was long and complex, characterized by a challenging journey that ultimately ended in success thanks to a crucial synergy between the public and private sectors.

The Origins and the Need for a New Hub (1990s - Early 2000s): The need for a new hospital for the cities of Alba and Bra became apparent starting in the 1990s. The existing structures were considered obsolete and no longer adequate for modern healthcare needs. There was a risk that the two cities would lose essential services, such as the emergency room, if a reorganization was not carried out. The idea was to move past the two old hospital facilities (in Alba and Bra) to concentrate resources in a single, more modern and efficient structure.

The Planning and Bureaucratic Process
- 1995-1997: The Piedmont Region allocates the initial funds for the new hospital's design.
- 1999-2004: Various project levels are approved: preliminary (1999), definitive (2001), and executive (2004).
- 2003: A decree by the President of the Regional Council sanctions the program agreement for the hospital's construction, paving the way for the tender process.
Construction Begins and the Foundation's Role
- 2005: MGR Verduno 2005 spa is established and awarded the work through a financial project contract. The state commits to funding a large portion of the work, with a significant contribution from MGR Verduno as well.
- March 2006: With the start of construction, the idea of complementing public funding with private contributions emerges. This leads to the creation of the Fondazione Ospedale Alba-Bra ETS in December 2007 (operational from 2008). The Foundation played a crucial role in raising funds from the local community, involving citizens, businesses, associations, and other foundations to support and contribute to the excellence of the new hospital. The Ferrero family, in particular, was a key player in this phase of economic support.
The Long Wait and Completion: The construction was a long and complex process, with several phases of slowdowns and delays. For many years, the Verduno Hospital was considered one of the region's "great unfinished works."
- September 21, 2019: The new hospital's construction is finally declared complete.
The Opening and Naming (2020)
- May 2020: The hospital begins its first activities and patient transfers.
- July 19, 2020: The hospital officially becomes operational with the transfer of the last patients from the old facilities.
- September 29, 2020: The hospital is officially named after Michele and Pietro Ferrero, in recognition of their connection to the region and their significant contribution to the structure's realization and support. This naming highlights the important synergy between public initiative and private generosity.
