There's an emotion that goes beyond simple tourism, nestled in the vibrant heart of the Langhe, just a stone's throw from the vineyards that shape the hills of La Morra. It’s the thrill of the search, the anticipation of an intoxicating aroma, and the perfect symbiosis between a person and their dog. I'm talking about the truffle hunt, an experience that for me is not just a job, but a true passion, passed down through generations.

Camera da letto casa a pollenzo

My name is Marco Varaldo, and for me, a truffle is more than just a precious fungus: it's a life companion. For over 15 years, as a trifolau (truffle hunter), I’ve been leading excursions deep into the woods. And believe me, there's nothing more exciting than seeing a visitor's eyes light up when the dog, after an tireless sniff, starts to dig with that unmistakable enthusiasm.

The Bond Between the Trifolau and Their Dog

Truffle hunting isn't a game; it's a discipline that requires patience, respect, and a deep understanding of your animal. Many people ask me: Why a dog and not a pig? How do you train a truffle dog? During our excursions, I’ll share all the secrets, anecdotes, and best hunting techniques with you.

Caring for these animals is an art. Their diet, health, and emotional well-being are essential. They are the only ones who, with their sensitivity and extraordinary sense of smell, can reveal the deepest secrets of the soil, where truffles are born and mature.

Experiencing the Langhe: Beyond the Hunt

Our tour lasts about two hours and winds through the vineyards and hazelnut groves that define our beautiful landscape, leading to my private truffle grounds. During the excursion, if needed, an interpreter will accompany you to provide all the explanations on how and where these precious hypogeal fungi are born, in various languages including English, French, and German.

But the adventure doesn't end with the discovery. The Langhe offers a complete, 360-degree experience. Over the years, I've wanted to enhance our offerings to help you fully immerse yourself in the magic of our region.

  • The Trifolau’s Breakfast: After a morning hunt for the black truffle, a sweet and savory breakfast awaits you, featuring dishes designed to enhance its unmistakable flavor.
  • Truffle-Wine-Food: A comprehensive journey that combines the hunt, a visit to a winery with a tasting, and a lunch or dinner at a partner restaurant, where you can savor the truffle you just found.
  • Tour with a Picnic in the Langhe: By reservation, you can receive an eco-friendly picnic basket for two to enjoy surrounded by nature, admiring the breathtaking view.
  • Truffle-Nut: An experience that links the world of truffles to another Langhe excellence: the hazelnut.
