Origins and Unexpected Stories
Neive’s history is lost to time. Its name, according to some, may come from the Roman family Gens Naevia, who supposedly owned land here. But the most captivating legend takes us back to the Middle Ages and the figure of a ghost: it’s said that Neive Castle, now unfortunately destroyed, was haunted by the spirit of a woman. Her ghost, dressed in white, was seen gliding through the walls, protecting the village from danger.
Another popular belief tells of a mysterious wishing well located in the center of the village. It's said that anyone who tosses a coin into it, making a wish with a pure heart, will see it come true.

Wine, a Tradition Passed Down for Centuries
Neive is famous worldwide for its wines, especially Barbaresco. The winemaking tradition here runs deep. Ancient documents show that Neive’s wines were highly prized as far back as the 18th century. The history of the wine is intertwined with that of the village: farmers and noble families alike all helped make Neive the capital of Barbaresco.
Even today, walking through the streets, you can see the ancient underground cellars carved into the tuff rock. These magical, cool, and silent places are the beating heart of Neive’s winemaking tradition. Time seems to stand still here, and the scent of fermenting must blends with the aroma of history.

Festivals, Fairs, and Traditions
Neive is a lively village, animated by events and traditions that celebrate its identity. One of the most cherished festivals is the Feast of San Michelissimo, an unmissable event for both the local community and visitors. During the festival, the streets fill with music, market stalls, and opportunities to taste local culinary specialties. The feast in honor of San Gervasio is no less important, offering another chance to fully experience the authentic village atmosphere with gatherings, religious services, and community celebrations.
Additionally, the village often hosts events tied to the world of wine and gastronomy, such as the "Neive Vino E..." wine fair, where you can taste the best local wines and meet the producers.
A Village to Explore and Live In
Beyond its wines, legends, and traditions, Neive is an open-air museum. Its historic center, with its cobbled streets and brick houses, is an invitation to get lost. Don't miss the Clock Tower, a symbol of the village, or the Church of Saints Peter and Paul, which houses valuable works of art.

And don’t forget to stop at one of the village's many taverns and wine bars, where you can sample local products, accompanied, of course, by a good glass of Barbaresco.
Neive is a magical place where history, tradition, and beauty come together in an unforgettable experience. It's a village to be discovered slowly, savored calmly, just like a fine glass of wine.
