The Story of a Hilltop Town
The name "Diano" comes from Diana, the Roman goddess of the hunt, a testament to its ancient origins. Even in Roman times, this hill was a strategic point and a place of worship. With the arrival of the Lombards and Franks, Diano became an important military outpost. Its history is linked to feudal lords and castles, but above all, to the land. The town's elevated position, at about 500 meters above sea level, has always allowed for excellent vine cultivation, especially of Dolcetto. It's no coincidence that the Dolcetto produced here has a name all its own: Dolcetto di Diano d'Alba DOCG, a wine that best expresses the character of this territory.

Festivals and Traditions
Diano D'Alba is a town that knows how to celebrate its traditions. Among the most cherished festivals is the Patron Saint's Festival of St. John the Baptist, which takes place in late June. On this occasion, the town comes alive with stalls, concerts, and a traditional procession. A highly anticipated event is the Dolcetto Fair, held in the autumn. It's a great opportunity to taste local wines, meet the producers, and discover the gastronomic excellence of the area, such as cheeses and cured meats.
Folk Tales and Legends
Like any ancient village, Diano D'Alba has its own legends. The most fascinating is related to the Sanctuary of the Madonna della Speranza (Our Lady of Hope), which is located on another hill, Monte Ceva. It is said that a farmer in financial difficulty miraculously found a statue of the Madonna in a field. After taking it home, his life improved, and he decided to build a chapel on that spot to show his gratitude. Another curious story concerns the Ghost of Diano Castle, an ancient fortress now in ruins. It is said that the ghost of a noblewoman, unjustly imprisoned, still wanders among the castle ruins on full moon nights, in search of her freedom.
